Mary Jane has 37 years of nonprofit experience with 27 at Donate Life Northwest. Her responsibilities include administration, board development, legislative affairs, media relations, fund development and planning.
As a native Oregonian, Mary Jane lives in Wilsonville with her husband and has two sons. She enjoys gardening and has a passion for golf.
Education Outreach Coordinator
Valerie oversees Donate Life Northwest's School Outreach programs. A former classroom teacher and school administrator, Valerie oversees the daily and strategic administration of programs and initiatives for youth, high school educators, universities, and driver’s ed throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. She works directly with Donate Life's School Speakers Bureau to ensure that volunteers in the schools are trained in a curriculum program which meets national and local standards for health and science education.
An accomplished mixed media artist and creative writer, Valerie loves cooking, graphic design, biking and travel. She is fluent in French and proficient in Spanish, and wishes that her German were much better.
Finance & Operations Manager
Sara started at Donate Life Northwest as Coordinator of Volunteers in August of 2007. She returned to her hometown of Portland in June of ’07 after three years in Panama with the Peace Corps where she worked as a Sustainable Agriculture volunteer as well as a Regional Volunteer Coordinator.
After a year as Coordinator of Volunteers, Sara moved into the position of Finance & Operations Manager and currently manages financials, budgeting and other agency wide projects like the database and website. She speaks Spanish and enjoys mushroom hunting and exporing Oregon's outdoors in her free time.
Anna has been with Donate Life Northwest since 2011. She started as the Administrative Assistant and Social Media Coordinator, where she enjoyed reaching out to the online community with Donate Life Northwest’s life saving message and educating the public about organ, eye, and tissue donation. As Development Coordinator, Anna is excited to support Donate Life Northwest and its mission through fundraising and coordinating special events like the Golf Tournament and Lifesavers Breakfast.
Anna studied Philosophy at the University of Florida and Colorado State University. She enjoys cooking, bike riding, road trips, and exploring Oregon.
Stephen Rice has over 17 years of experience in training, education, community outreach, and strategic communications. He has 5 years of non-profit management experience, playing a key role in the development of a national education reform organization where he oversaw the design, implementation, national scale-up, and evaluation of educational initiatives funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
As Program Director, Stephen oversees Donate Life Northwest’s statewide public education programs through the development of strategic partnerships and new initiatives, the implementation of outreach campaigns, and the evaluation of programming for maximum impact.
Stephen holds a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Communications from Antioch University with a specialization in training and development. He enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, and when he isn’t deep into a remodeling project in their historic home, he likes mountaineering, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and photography.
A recent transplant from the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, Sarah has worked in non-profit administration since 1996, with a brief break to get a BA in English from Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC. Since 2004, Sarah has spent the majority of her vacations traveling with short-term medical teams throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. She currently lives in Vancouver, Washington. When she's not behind her computer at Donate Life Northwest, you can find her doing freelance writing and editing, or hiking around the Pacific Northwest with her adventurous group of friends.
Community Outreach Coordinator
Moving to Portland in 2002, Matt began working as a Community Organizer and has since worked on a variety of social justice issues and campaigns. Prior to working with our organization, Matt was the Outreach Coordinator at We Can Do Better. Now, as Program Coordinator for Community Initiatives, Matt is excited to grow our community outreach, events, and volunteer participation.
Matt studied at the University of Montana in Missoula. He enjoys spending time with his wife, their dog, his bicycle, and his running shoes. When not in Oregon, he might be found spaying and neutering Peruvian street dogs with the Perros Project or creating community with BreakfastwithStrangers.com.

Willamette Valley Coordinator
Sue lives in Springfield with her husband of many years, and is the mother of four grown children and grandmother to two girls. Sue is the regional liasion for Student, Community and Hispanic Outreach programs in the Willamette Valley; she also works to faciliatate local Ambassadors in their efforts to raise donation awareness. Sue writes: "I am pleased to count myself among the dedicated staff and volunteers of Donate Life Northwest who are changing the world. My sister-in-law Celia is living a healthy and active life because of her donated kidney. She never forgets this precious gift of life. Nor do I."
