How to Host Your Own Donate Life Northwest Registry Party
- Choose a theme or occasion: add a charitable dimension to a birthday, anniversary, donation anniversary, BBQ, family reunion, bunco party, poker night, anything!
- Contact Donate Life Northwest staff to help determine what is appropriate for your group – a volunteer speaker, on-site laptop or Donate Life Northwest giveaways.
- Invite your guests and include Registry information in your formal invite. Evite.com works great because you can include web links. Make sure guests realize it is not a fundraiser. Have a start and end time listed on your invitation so Donate Life Northwest volunteers can plan when to leave. Example invitation:
- Have a designated space for registry sign-ups in your party space – you can use any computer with internet access or one of Donate Life Northwest’s laptops with the mobile registry program.
- Once the party is swinging...Create a time and space to introduce Donate Life Northwest to the group with a microphone or loud voice. Remind everyone that the “D” on their drivers license is not enough. The online registry is an opportunity to specify what one wishes to donate. Always end on a high note… it is a party after all!
- Be prepared for lots of questions as people register. If possible, recruit Donate Life Northwest volunteers to help with registrations, especially if you are u sing one of the Donate Life Northwest laptops.
- Be sure to use the “I REGISTERED” stickers – peer pressure works incredibly well!
- Invite fellow Donate Life Northwest supporters to mingle, answer questions and generally create "buzz" through conversation with your guests.
- EXTRAS! Door prizes, thank notes, follow-up email … And, perhaps ask a friend to volunteer to help with refilling drinks, replenishing wine, etc. (tell them it's for a great charitable cause).
- Share your guest list with Donate Life Northwest staff. They will follow-up to see if your party "perked" their interest in becoming more involved in this great organization.
Amanda’s 30th Birthday & Donate Life Northwest Registry Launch Party
Join us for an evening of drinks and music to celebrate two April 2007 events – Amanda’s 30th birthday and the launch of Oregon’s first online organ & tissue donor registry.
We needed an excuse to invite our friends to be some of the first in the state to confirm their commitment to organ & tissue donation on the state’s new online donor registry. Kiosks will be set-up so you can confirm your decision to be a donor and then enjoy music, champagne, beer, wine and light hors d’oeuvres!
There are over 98,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a transplant. An online registry ensures more organs are made available to giving the procurement agencies immediate access to critical donor info. And, beginning April, Oregon’s online registry will be the legal and final step to organ donation.
