“Thank you, Dad!” Marissa Salgado cannot say it enough. When chronic kidney failure changed her life, the 16-year-old endured years of daily dialysis.
Maria Fernanda Filizola
Community Engagement Manager
As a longtime volunteer, whose daughter is dealing with kidney disease, Maria has a very strong connection with Donate Life Northwest. After her daughter's father had two kidney transplants due to the same kidney disease her daughter shares, Maria made it her intention to one day help reach the community -- especially the Latino community -- with education about organ, eye, and tissue donation. Coming from a background as a medical interpreter, Maria enthusiastically joins DLNW as Latino Outreach Coordinator. Originally from Mexico City, Maria has lived in Oregon for more than 15 years. She and her daughter, Nevaeh (who is also an active DLNW volunteer), enjoy going to the beach, visiting family in Mexico, reading, and spending time together.
