Celeste’s story begins with a birth defect that caused her bones not to harden. By the time she was 14, surgery was her best option to regain her mobility. On November 17, 2006, at OHSU, she had a knee replacement using donor cartilage and bone.
Justin played baseball, and when he found himself with a serious injury in 2009, it was receiving a donated lateral collateral ligament that allowed him to quickly return to an active lifestyle as an avid hunter and fisherman.
Celeste graduated from Portland State University in 2015, then pursued her dream of becoming a transplant nurse by graduating from nursing school in September 2019. In March 2020, she began working as a post-transplant nurse at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
She and Justin are grateful for their donors and honor them by encouraging others to become organ, eye, and tissue donors. Celeste says, “Your donation can help others to live out some of the most amazing moments of their lives!”
